A free design event in a Roppongi complex with galleries, shops and green space
TOKYO MIDTOWN DESIGN LIVE has free admission! That’s a lovely reason to drop by and see what the event has in store, isn’t it? 😊
The event takes place at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, a complex with art galleries, upscale shops, varied restaurants and green space. Have a wander around the wider site as part of your visit, too.
Tokyo Midtown connects directly with Roppongi Station on the Oedo and Hibiya subway lines. Nogizaka Station is another option, with a short walk from its exit.
If you’ve got time for just one thing, make the event your first stop, then explore the galleries and green space nearby. Ready to head out? Follow the subway connection into Tokyo Midtown and see where your visit takes you 🚇

This annual design event, which this year explores the theme of ‘gazing’, sees the vast grass square adjacent to Tokyo Midtown host installations by an international cast of 19 artists and creators. Helmed by creative director and designer Taku Sato , the event also features a diverse programme of family-friendly events intended to help visitors rediscover the charm and value of design hidden in everyday life.
The main highlight is the aforementioned open-air ‘Design Live Exhibition’ on the Midtown lawn, featuring works such as ‘Sea Hammock’ by architect Yuko Nagayama , which makes its return to the event after four years. Elsewhere, catch some grooves at ‘Design Live Music’, where design and music intersect, or browse a selection of books and stationery at ‘Design Live Market’.
