Its ninth edition runs across seven days, with a tribute event, fashion show, exhibitions, performances, hands-on activities and forums. The nationwide celebration invites you to see, wear and enjoy hanbok in everyday life 😊
A ninth edition connecting hanbok programmes across more than 410 locations
More than 410 locations are part of Hanbok Culture Week, and its central tribute event brings a performance and hanbok fashion show to the National Museum of Korea’s Open Courtyard. This is the big gathering to choose if you only have time for one programme: it pairs a celebration with a chance to see hanbok on the runway. I’m already curious to see how the traditional clothing takes the spotlight! 🤩
The week also includes exhibitions, performances, hands-on activities and academic forums through participating locations around the country. The idea is to bring hanbok closer to everyday life, so look for a programme at a location that suits your plans. The tribute event is free; check the specific programme details before setting out, since conditions can vary by activity.
At Gangneung Cultural Center, the Hanbok Living and UNESCO symposium focuses on lectures and discussion. It’s the programme for anyone keen to explore how hanbok can remain part of daily life and connect with wider cultural exchange. A forum brings a different perspective from the runway—one to listen, think and join the conversation. 🧐
Make the symposium your pick if the ideas behind wearing hanbok interest you as much as the clothing itself. It sits within the wider celebration, which combines cultural experiences with academic discussion. Check the individual programme information before you go, so you know what to expect for this session.
The Book Festival X Hanbok Culture Week brings a festival programme to the area around the Music Plaza at Seoul Arts Center. It’s one of the event’s linked experiences, connecting the week’s hanbok focus with a festival setting. Curious how the two come together? This is the one to explore. 📚
The festival is one of several programmes hosted beyond the National Museum of Korea, with locations across the country taking part. Choose this stop if you’d like to experience the celebration at Seoul Arts Center. Check its programme details before heading over, as arrangements can differ from one participating location to another.
A hanbok-wearing campaign at the Central Lawn in the Open Songhyeon Green Plaza pairs hanbok experiences with traditional games. That means you can take part as well as look around—an inviting way to meet hanbok through activities. I’d make room for a turn at the traditional games! 🎎
This campaign is another distinct experience in the wider programme, alongside the tribute event, symposium and festival. Look for the hanbok activity that catches your eye, and check its details before you go so you can plan around that specific programme. Pick a participating location and step into the celebration.
