At Anseongmatchum Land and the Anseongcheon area, Korean heritage moves from a tightrope to an old-style market and lively public stages. The festival makes UNESCO-listed Namsadang nori easy to watch, explore, and join.

Follow the festival as it shifts from the daring focus of tightrope walking to market life, heritage performances, and stages created by local citizens.

🪢 Start with a tightrope and a remarkable legacy

At Anseongmatchum Land and the Anseongcheon area, look first for the tightrope act. The performer’s careful steps turn the open festival grounds into a close-up stage, with every shift of balance carrying the audience through the scene.

This is the heart of Namsadang nori, a Korean traditional performance tradition recognized as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The festival also remembers Baudeogi, the first female kkokdu-soe, or leader of a Namsadang troupe, whose artistic spirit gives the event its central story.

🏮 Walk into an old market from the Joseon era

The Anseong Old Market recreates the generous, busy feeling of one of Joseon Korea’s three major markets. Instead of seeing heritage behind glass, visitors can move through a setting built around encounters, goods, demonstrations, and traditional culture.

The route also includes the Baudeogi Theme Park, a Baudeogi culture tour, and the Anseong Culture Market. Exhibition and promotion spaces add an artisan showcase, a light festival, a global studio, farm and livestock sales, and a local livestock grill zone; check the final food lineup before you go.

🎭 Choose between heritage masters and citizen stages

The performance program moves well beyond one headline act. Alongside Namsadang nori, visitors can see a traditional wedding, dramatic plays, and a World Heritage Master Class, creating several ways to understand how Korean performance traditions work.

Then the festival hands the spotlight to its community. THE NEXT Baudeogi competition, a citizen choir festival, a 100-Saxophone performance, and citizen arts stages bring a different kind of energy, while the memorial, opening, and closing ceremonies give the full program a clear ceremonial frame.

📍 A free, four-day route for curious explorers

The festival runs for four days, stretching from late morning into evening, and entry is free. Because the program spreads across Anseongmatchum Land and the Anseongcheon area, it helps to choose a few must-see stages before setting out rather than treating the grounds as one single stop.

Families, first-time visitors to Korean traditional arts, and travelers who like mixing performances with hands-on experiences will find an easy fit here. Come for the tightrope, stay for the old market, and keep exploring until the festival’s heritage story opens into food, exhibitions, and local voices.
