Push open a creaking gate in Bukchon or Seochon and — oh 😍 everyday rooms glow with new living ideas, ready for you to wander through!
Everyday hanok living told through rooms you can step into as light spills — ah 😊 come catch that quiet thrill beside me right now!
Push through a low wooden gate in Bukchon and — ooh 😍 sunlight just puddles across the maru right in front of you! Step inside and find a living room made for two, a starlit maru corner and a sarangbang brimming with taste, each dressed by a partner living brand! One more step and a courtyard garden, a Seochon salon and a deep-eaved library unfold, all showing how hanok holds daily life right now!
Stand right next to the wooden pillars and pick up the textures of fabric, paper and clay — eh 😳 so tactile you want to touch everything! Pause in the shade of the eaves and watch light shift across the courtyard planting! This run stretches over several days across public hanok in Bukchon and Seochon with one rest day during the run, so wander slowly and revisit a favorite room!
Catch the moment a heavy gate swings open and — wow 🙊 a hidden courtyard suddenly appears where you least expect it! Join a docent-led walk through excellent hanok homes and public hanok lanes across a dozen varied courses! Step inside and listen closely as owners and guides share stories of pillars, tiles and courtyards kept alive through care over many years!
This tenth-anniversary open-house edition invites you past thresholds usually closed to passersby, with some walks asking for advance booking through the city reservation system! Entry to the wider celebration stays free, while guided places are limited so a little planning helps you slip inside calmly! Stay near Bukchon Culture Center (북촌문화센터) where calm courtyards and small exhibits give you shade before you climb uphill again!
Look around and you find museums, an art hall and hanok experience corners clustered along the same lanes, perfect for drifting between walks! Wander slowly beneath tiled roofs from one open gate to the next — hmm 😌 which alley will surprise you first?
Settle onto the wooden edge as flute, gayageum and cello tune up together and — ah 😍 that first blended note just floats over the tiles! Stand close and hear strings pluck and bow melt into breathy wind lines in a crossover set made for hanok timber and open sky! Clap along, hold your breath at the quiet pauses and let the courtyard carry every vibration straight to you!
The concert plays inside Bukchon Hanok Cheong, a historic hanok hall tucked among the village lanes near museums and an art hall! This festive run continues over several days as part of a fourth-edition celebration linking with local festivals and partner institutions! Details for extra stages live on the official portal and social channels, so browse those categories before you head out!
