A hillside neighborhood that sheltered Korean War refugees in the 1950s now draws 1.85 million visitors a year!? Busan Gamcheon Munhwa Maeul preserves a part of the city’s history while bringing art and culture into the neighborhood; in 2016, it received the Presidential Award at the Daehanminguk Gonggan Munhwa Daesang. 😮

Pastel-colored homes climb the slope in neat tiers, with maze-like lanes winding between them. Take in the hillside view, then duck into the lanes to spot artworks tucked along the way. Which corner will catch your eye first? 👀

There’s room to make something, too: resident artists’ studios offer craft experiences, with woodworking, ceramics, and caricature also featured. The village is open at all times, admission is free, and a parking lot sits right beside it. 🚗
