Eleven storybook-themed lanes in one neighborhood!? Songwol-dong was transformed into a storybook village in 2013, and murals of classic tales from Korea and around the world now cover its walls. The lanes have their own names, including Dorothy-gil, Red Hood-gil, and Thumbelina-gil—so which story will you spot first? 📖

Head farther into the village to find a mural lane inspired by Korean folktales, along with storybook sculptures placed around the neighborhood. As you wander, see how many familiar tales you can recognize; you could even ask your companion to guess before you tell them. 🧸

There’s a little history in the name, too. Songwol-dong was once called Solgol or Songsan because of its many pine trees, and its name came from the moon seen through the pine forest. Residents still live here, so keep your voice down, take your trash with you, and respect their privacy as you explore. 🤝
