Anseongmatchum Namsadang Baudeogi: Tradition on a Tightrope

At Anseongmatchum Land and the Anseongcheon area, look first for the tightrope act. The performer’s careful steps turn the open festival grounds into a close-up stage, with every shift of balance carrying the audience through the scene.

This is the heart of Namsadang nori, a Korean traditional performance tradition recognized as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The festival also remembers Baudeogi, the first female kkokdu-soe, or leader of a Namsadang troupe, whose artistic spirit gives the event its central story.

The Anseong Old Market recreates the generous, busy feeling of one of Joseon Korea’s three major markets. Instead of seeing heritage behind glass, visitors can move through a setting built around encounters, goods, demonstrations, and traditional culture.

The route also includes the Baudeogi Theme Park, a Baudeogi culture tour, and the Anseong Culture Market.
